Description
Mahavaipulya purnabudha Sutra (Complete Enlightenment Sutra) constitutes the basic curriculum for the monastic education of Korean Buddhist monks. Jinul, an eminent monk of the Goryeo Dynasty, deeply believed in this book and called it a must-read book, so this sutra became popular in Korea. This sutra was translated into Chinese by Buddhatrata of the Tang Dynasty, and Buddhist monk Zongmi of the Tang Dynasty added explanatory notes. It contained a prologue written by Pei Xiu, an official of the Tang Dynasty. Printed on mulberry paper using woodblocks, this book measures 19.7 cm wide and 34.3 cm long. The woodblocks were engraved during the Goryeo Period based on the ones from the Song Dynasty, and the printing quality suggests that it was not the first edition.
