Description
This stone pagoda stands at the side of a pond in Changgyeonggung Palace, and its seven-story body is placed on the octagonal platform. The foundation part consists of the lowest square tier on the ground and two octagonal tiers, all of which are carved with various designs. Right below the platform is a lotus pedestal. Each side of the platform is decorated with flower designs, and the upper platform is carved with lotus and circle designs. On top of the platform are another lotus pedestal and a two-story low support propping the body of the pagoda. The first story of the body is tall and round, and the height on each story of the body becomes shorter from the second story. The roofstones have grooves, like a roof of a wooden building, and the finial ornament seems to have been replaced in later times. According to the inscription on the first story of the pagoda body, this pagoda was built in 1470, the year of King Seongjong’s accession to the throne during the Joseon Dynasty.
