Description
This Buddhist script comprises a sutra, a law, and an essay consisting of a systemic explanation of the Buddha's sermon. The text, titled Mahayana abhidharma samucchaya vyakhya, is a collective essay that explains Nirvana, with added commentaries by Sthiramati, a 6th-century Indian Buddhist scholar-monk, on the works of Abhidharma. It was translated into Chinese by the Chinese Buddhist monk Xuanzang. This collection of the Mahayana abhidharma, consisting of a binding of volumes 13 and 14 (out of a total of 16 volumes), contains added commentaries by Hyeonbeom (of the Silla Dynasty) on the Mahayana abhidharma samucchaya. At the end of the book, a record states that it was made in 1093 (the tenth year of the reign of King Seonjong of the Goryeo Dynasty), indicating that it was originally published as one of the Sokjanggyeong. Based on the original text of Sokjanggyeong (Supplement to the Tripitaka), this book was reprinted by the Gangyeongdogam, a governmental office established in 1461 (the 7th year of the reign of King Sejo of the Joseon Dynasty) for the translation and publication of Buddhist texts into Korean.
