Description
This soft white porcelain bottle dates from the Joseon Dynasty and measures 29.9㎝ in height, 6.9㎝ in mouth diameter and 8.5㎝ in bottom diameter. The glaze on a soft white porcelain ware tends to become easily peeled off, due to the soft surface. The bottle has an outward-turned mouth rim and flares slowly to a round low belly before it tapers to a narrow foot. The shoulder is decorated with a band of scroll design between two sets of two black horizontal inlaid lines above and below them. The body displays lotus flowers in three places, and black inlaid scroll designs are distributed between the lotus flowers. The inlaid lines are in even thickness, giving the underglaze decorations a neat and orderly appearance. This bottle is similar in shape and underglaze decorations to the White Porcelain Flat Bottle with Inlaid Grass and Flower Design Excavated from the Tomb of Lady Jeong (National Treasure No. 172) and White Porcelain Bottle with Inlaid Peony Design (Treasure 807), and is considered priceless for understanding the genealogy of Joseon’s white porcelain making.
