Description
Made in the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty, this buncheong bottle with Sgraffito floral design is 20.4cm in height, 5.2cm in mouth diameter and 8cm in bottom diameter. It's made by coating the gray clay celadon with white, engraving patterns on the surface, scraping out the background, and then coating the scraped part with iron powder, which highlights the contrast between the dark green background and white peony pattern. This unorthodox way of making pottery was employed in order to express freedom and liberality. The neck of the bottle is surrounded by a band of lotus pattern. The glaze is transparent gray-blue with light brown spots in some areas. The surface is not that smooth, but the shape and the manner of design makes the bottle look very natural and traditional.
