Description
This document dated March 12, 1457 (the 3rd year of King Sejo’s reign) contains the King’s order that the holder should mobilize troops only for the King. Issued when holder Yi Yun-son was designated as a military commander in Pyeongan-do, it has been handed down by the eldest of the head family of Gapyeong Yi Clan. Yi Yun-son served as military commander in several provinces and Vice Minister of Finance. The document was issued along with a round wooden tag having diameter of about 10㎝ and containing the King’s seal imprinted on the backside. The half of the wooden tag was kept by the relevant officer, and the other half, at the central government. This document is said to be the oldest existing one of its kind.
