Description
This is a four-volume collection of literary works such as forewords, epilogues, poems, and prose written by Gang Hui-maeng (1424-1483), a high-ranking official of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), his brother Gang Hui-an (a famed painter), his father Gang Seok-deok, and his grandfather Gang Hoe-baek. The collection is presumed to have been published in 1476 (the 7th year of King Seongjeong’s reign). At age 18, Gang Hui-maeng topped the civil service exam in 1447 (the 29th year of King Sejong’s reign). He served as Protocol Minister and Justice Minister, and then Vice Prime Minister. A modest and meticulous person, he was also an excellent man of letters. Books authored by him include Geumyangjamnok (book on agriculture) and Chondamhaei (storybook based on stories among grassroots people). The foreword was written by Sin Suk-ju, Choe Hang, and Jeong Chang-son. The epilogue was written by Kim Jong-jik and Seo Geo-jeong. Volume 1 is composed of records of the life of Gang Hoe-baek and literary works written by him. Volume 2 consists of records of the life of Gang Seok-deok and literary works written by him. Volume 3 is composed of records of the life of Gang Hui-an and literary works written by him. Volume 4 is Yanghwasorok (encyclopedia on horticulture) written by Gang Hui-an. As the oldest among the books titled Jinsansego, it is a valuable historical and academic material since it contains writings of famous people of that time.
