Description
This bridge (length: 10.6m) is located on the border between Haesang-ri and Taphyeon-ri, Ganseong-eup, Goseong-gun. The foundation for the bridge was made using natural topography. The east side of the bridge was formed on natural bedrock (height: 1.7m). A tier of foundation stones (height: 30cm) about the size of voussoirs was laid. As for the other side of the bridge, three tiers of foundations stones were laid first, with the arch built on it. This one is presumed to have been built around the time Neungpagyo Bridge in Geonbongsa Temple was built (i.e., 1704), since the records show that this one collapsed like Neungpagyo Bridge did in 1745 due to flood. This one may have been built earlier than Neungpagyo Bridge, since the Ganseong-eup Journal compiled in 1748 states that it is not certain when Arch Bridge of Yuksongjeong Pavilion was built. It has been preserved well, with experts saying that it is one of the especially nice-looking stone bridges built during the Joseon Period (1392-1910).
