Description
This is a celadon from the mid-Goryeo, 34.2 cm in height, 1.3 cm in diameter at the mouth, and 9.3 cm in diameter at the bottom. One side of the body is engraved with reeds at the water edge and a pair of wild geese playing underneath. On the other surface is a pair of mandarin ducks relaxing under a weeping willow. On the upper surface of a broad round joint on the middle of the neck, a cloud pattern is engraved on the inside and a vine pattern on the outside. On the middle joint of the bottleneck the pouring mouth stands vertically, with its corners cut hexagonally. The bottom spreads out a little, giving a stable appearance. The glaze is a clear light blue, and is mostly harmonious. This celadon is a trial work with a changed subject based on Bronze Kundika with Silver-inlaid Willow and Waterfowl Design (National Treasure No. 92). Its manufacture and technique are very refined, following exactly the form and curve of a bronze celadon with the contents of the ornament pattern similarly arranged.
