Description
This buncheong prunus vase was made in the early Joseon Dynasty. It is 30.0 cm in height, 4.6 cm in diameter at the mouth and 10.4 cm in diameter at the bottom. The prunus vase that was popular at the time of Goryeo is not seen in any white porcelain of Joseon, but instead was superseded by buncheong. This celadon shows a transitional shape into buncheong. The mouth is thick. The pattern is complex and beaded, and a transformed cloud and lotus flower pattern can be seen. On each of the 4 sides of the body a bead pattern and double concentric circles are drawn, and inside these two fish are inlaid in black and white with a black wave. In the four spaces above are drawn flying cranes, around the waist abstract flowers and weeds, and on the lower part, lotus flowers. Around the mouth of the vase petals are inlaid in black and white, and the lower part is encircled with a vine pattern. This vase seems to have used buncheong glazing similar to light pale blue celadon glazing, and also it has a transitional aspect in glaze.
