Description
This shrine was set up to pay homage to An Hyang (pen-name: Hoeheon/1243-1306). The place also keeps the mortuary tablets of An Chuk (aka Lord Munjeong), An Bo (aka Lord Mungyeong), and Ju Se-bung (aka Munmingong). The building with a gable roof measures 3 kan* by 3 kan. Baeheullim (entasis) pillars were set up on the round trimmed base stone on a rectangular stone foundation. The roof is built with a single-wing bracket structure where the judu (capital) is secured at the top of the pillars, cheomcha (bracket arms) are placed on the judu, and soro (small bearing blocks) are placed below the janghyeo (purlin supports) to hold them up. Boaji or small structural supports are placed under the beams supporting the quadrangular aisle (walkway-like space surrounding the building). The roof structure is a five-girder design. The main beam connects the pillar heads at the front and back, which support the roof. The dongjaju (queen post) has a bracket structure and supports the jongbo (collar beam), on which a short pillar supporting the jongdori (ridge purlin) is placed. Wooden panels acting as wind and rain barriers are attached on each side of the roof below the gable boards. Long pedestal stones are piled at the back and on the left side of the shrine to form a stone embankment, with a stone wall built around the shrine. The main gate is placed at the front, and a narrow gate, on the right side. A sacrificial rite is held in March and September. A document containing the procedures and formalities of the religious service, written by Ju Se-bung, is kept at the shrine. (*kan: a unit of measurement referring to the distance between two columns)
