Description
This Buncheong bottle decorated with large, bold inlaid wave and fish designs exhibits the typical characteristics of Buncheong ceramic wares of the early Joseon Dynasty. The neck is embellished with inlaid pearl rounded motif, and the shoulder is encircled by two bands of tightly-packed stamped chrysanthemum designs. The body is decorated with two large inlaid patterns of fish that appear to be swimming over the wave patterns. A band of arabesque designs encircle the bottom of the bottle, and even the foot is decorated with similar decorative motifs. All the designs are inlaid with white slip. This Buncheong bottle is a work of considerable artistry characterized by bold, vibrant wave and fish designs that also exhibit a subtle comic touch.
