Description

This five-story stone pagoda stands on the site of a former temple of which no traces remain, and is now in a wide field located 1 km away from Damyang Town along the road to Sunchang. The pagoda consists of a single-layer platform and a five-story main body missing its finial. The platform here has a low height compared to other pagodas, and its top stone is smaller in width than the roof stone of the first story. The main body gradually tapers in size, giving a sense of stability. From the second story, each core stone is carved with a thick supporting stone, which is a typical characteristic of the stone pagodas built during the Goryeo Dynasty. The roof stones are thick, and the eaves slope and curve swiftly upwards at the four edges. In addition, each edge has a hole to hang a wind chime, which is believed to have been a decorative style of the early Goryeo Dynasty. It is noted that this pagoda was built in imitation of the construction style of the Five-story Stone Pagoda at Jeongnimsa Temple Site, Buyeo (National Treasure No. 9) and it is itself situated in the territory of the Baekje Dynasty.
