Description
This document includes records of property inheritance to Princess Suksin, saying that King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty granted the title of Princess Suksin and a house to a daughter from one of his royal harems. It is composed of eight lines, and after the main text is written ‘Taesangwang’ and below it, the signature of King Taejo. The document is written in Idu script (an archaic writing system that represents the Korean language using Chinese characters) and it describes details on the lot for the house, the orientation of the house, building materials, arrangement of rooms, and sizes of buildings to be erected for the princess. At the end, it is written that all her descendents shall live on that assigned land in perpetuity. This document is the earliest of the records of property inheritance written during the early Joseon Dynasty and it is regarded as valuable material for research on the laws of the time concerning housing, land and property.
