Description
This arched stone bridge is built over a small brook in the village of Yeongsan. The bridge is sometimes referred to as “Namcheongyo” in reference to Namsan, where the creek originates. The abutments rest on the natural bedrock on either side of the creek, and the arch ring is built with evenly-hewn granite. The rest of the bridge is built with round natural rocks. The pavement above the bridge is covered with dirt. The pavement-side edge of the bridge is also arched with either end sloping gently, adding to the charm of this quaint-looking bridge. Originally constructed in 1780 (the 4th year of Jeongjo’s reign), the bridge was re-built in 1892 (the 29th year of Gojong’s reign). The sturdy bridge is still used by pedestrians in this village and is said to have never been damaged by flood.
