Description
This is a set of eight Buddhist scriptures found inside the Wooden Seated Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva of Songgwangsa Temple in Suncheon, along with other votive objects. Daebanggwang bulhwaeomgyeong hamnon (Comprehensive Comments on the Avatamsaka Sutra), one of the eight texts, is a discourse on the Avatamsaka Sutra (The Flower Garland Sutra), published by the Directorate of Buddhist Publications. The printing blocks were carved in Gwangju-mok in Jeolla-do Province, based on a manuscript written in the hand of Yi Gwon-saeng, Bak Mun-son and Yu Yak. Meanwhile, the Tripitaka Koreana, printed with the woodblocks in Haeinsa Temple and dating from sometime in the 15th century, was separately designated as a cultural heritage object, given its rarity and value.
