Description
Daebanggwangbul Avatamsaka Sutra, otherwise called Avatamsaka Sutra for short, is the first canon of the Avatamsaka sect and along with the Lotus Sutra, it made the largest contribution to the establishment of Buddhism in Korea. This is Volume 6 of the 80 volumes of the main text of Avatamsaka Sutra, translated by Silchananta of the Tang dynasty. It is a wood-block printing on paper. The papers are connected to form a roll. It is 29.7 cm in length and 676.6 cm in width. It contains 15 chapters, but the first 7 chapters are missing, and it is generally much damaged. The style of the letters, the kind of wood used, the color of ink and the quality of ink are similar to the Jin Version of Avatamsaka Sutra (Treasure No. 68). It appears to have been printed in the 3rd year of the reign of King Sukjong (1098) of Goryeo.
