Description

This book covers the good words of priests Jonggo and Sagyu of Sung China, which was contemporary with Goryeo. They were monks of learning and ascetic practices, and this is the exemplary book of the Zen sect. (Zen refers to solitary meditation for the purpose of discarding evil passions so as to attain a state of perfect self-effacement.) It was edited by the Monk Jeongseon in Southern Sung of China. It is a block book printed on mulberry paper and has the first and last volumes bound into one volume measuring 26 cm x 16 cm. The book has an epilogue and a record of publication written by the Monk Hwanam at the end of Goryeo. The monks Sangwi and Manhoe asked for a donation to the ubasae (a man who becomes a student of the Buddha without leaving home) Go Sikgi, and to the ubai (a woman who becomes a student of the Buddha without leaving home) Choe Seongyeon, in order to help them have a good relationship with the Buddha, and then published it at Cheongnyongsa Temple in Chungju in 1378, the 4th year of the reign of King Uh of Goryeo. Seollimbohun is an important source among Goryeo editions because it has a publication record as well as the most elaborate engraving and printing.
