Description

Donginjimun sayuk, Volume 7-9, is a collection of the four-six pair couplet style of writing (Saryuk byeollyeomun) selected from Donginjimun, an anthology of poems compiled by Choe Hae (1288-1340). The three volumes are bound into one book. Choe Hae, a civil official of the late Goryeo Dynasty, was a descendent of Choe Chi-won, a great scholar toward the end of the Silla Dynasty. He was an erudite man who passed the state civil service examinations not only in his home country but also in the China of the Yuan Dynasty. He was famous for his integrity and righteousness. After retiring from his official positions, he devoted himself to writing. Apart from Donginjimun, he left behind two volumes of Jolgocheonbaek, an anthology of his own writings. Donginjimun is a collection of poems by famous poets including his ancestor, Choe Chi-won of the Silla Dynasty, from the earliest times, and other poets from the reign of King Chungnyeol of the Goryeo Dynasty, at the latest. He sorted poems, prose, and four-six pair couplets under the titles of Ochil, Cheonbaek, and Saryuk, respectively. The collection consists of 25 volumes in total, including nine volumes of poems, one volume of prose, and fifteen volumes of four-six pair couplets, which are mostly royal edicts or memorial addresses. This book was printed from the same woodblocks as the Jinju edition designated as Treasure No 710-5, and is missing some parts. Any version of Donginjimun is considered valuable because so few copies of it have been found to date.
