Description
Geumgang banya baramilgyeong, or Baramilgyeong in short, is the basic sutra of the Jogye Order in Korea and it is the most widely read after Banyasimgyeong, the Korean version of the Prajina-paramita Sutra. This sutra was engraved on wood and printed on thin paper. Measuring 6.7cm in length and 72.5cm in width (5cm when folded), it is a collapsible sutra like a folding screen. According to the records, it was engraved on woodblocks by Hongjun in the 3rd year of the reign of King Chungseon (1311) of Goryeo, and printed in the 8th year of King Chungsuk’s reign (1339). This portable sutra for self-protection and recitation is an important source for the study of Buddhism in the Goryeo Dynasty.
