This book, the thirty-fourth of the eighty fascicles of the Avatamsaka Sutra (Zhou version) translated by Siksananda (652-710), is conjectured to be the original version published in 1098 from which the Haeinsa edition and, eventually, the Tripitaka Koreana were published. As few other copies have been discovered in Korea, this is an extremely rare work that contains point glosses that were marked in the margin beside the main text using a stylus, making it a valuable resource for the study of Korean vernacular glossing. The book is also widely regarded as an important material for bibliographical studies of Buddhist scriptures and woodblock printing in Goryeo.
