Description

This painting of three Bodhisattvas, created in 1727 by two monk-painters, Baekgi and Yeonghwi, to be enshrined in Guryongsa Temple at Chiaksan Mountain, depict a meeting of three bodhisattvas, Cheonjang, Jiji and Jijang, on the basis of the record in the collection of Liberation Rites of Water and Land. The painting was discovered together with a written prayer, a container for offerings, and a dharani, which confirm the production date and the list of participants recorded in the postscript on the painting. The painting is regarded as an important material concerning various memorial services held for the deceased at Buddhist temples during the early eighteenth century.
