Description
This book, Yeogong paeseol (Scribblings by Yeogong), is a collection of critical essays on poetry written by Yi Je-hyeon (pen-name: Yeogong, 1287-1357), a renowned scholar-official of late Goryeo. Characteristic features of the book include its outstanding state of preservation and clearly printed text, which suggest that it is one of the first copies printed with freshly carved woodblocks, and the use of established writing conventions to honor the rulers of Goryeo (918-1392) even forty years after the foundation of Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). The text also uses semi-cursive and cursive scripts and the iteration mark (""), characteristic features of Goryeo writings, and thus constitutes an important material for studies on the publication culture and bibliography as well as the critical essays on poetry of early Joseon.
