Description
This collection of woodblocks stored at Songgwangsa Temple in Suncheon is carved with the text of Jonggyeong chwaryo (Essentials of Reflections on the Essential Truth, or Zongjing cuoyao) as compiled by a renowned Song monk named Yongming Yanshou. The collection consists of seventeen blocks in total, of which the first sixteen are carved with sixty-four chapters, while the last is carved with the sixty-fifth chapter together with the fifth chapter of Cheongnyangdap sunjong simyo beommun (Dialogue between Qiangliang and Emperor Shunzong on Buddhist Teaching of the Mind, and a colophon. According to an ancient record, the book was reprinted in Korea in 1213 by Hyesim of the Suseonsa School, but none of the blocks has survived. The Songgwangsa blocks are the only remaining examples of the book which was printed in 1531 at Eunjeogam Hermitage on Jogyesan Mountain, according to the colophon at the end of Chapter 65.
