Description
These sarira reliquaries, offered to the Buddha by Yi Seong-gye (1335-1408) and his followers as part of their prayers just before his establishment of Joseon Dynasty, were discovered in 1932 inside a stone case buried on Wolchulbong Peak of Geumgangsan Mountain. These artifacts have great historical, artistic and academic value due to their significant historical background, the fact that the excavation site is clearly documented and the production date is known (i.e. 1301-1391), and the use of diverse craft techniques (forging, gilding and repoussage, in particular). It is also significant that the reliquaries include Goryeo white porcelain vessels with an inscription proving that the ritual ceramic vessels were made by ""Sim Ryong, master potter of Bangsan.""
