Description

Moguja susimgyeol (Golden Teachings on Mind Cultivation) was written by State Preceptor Bojo (aka Jinul, pen-name: Moguja) and has been regarded as a required book for Zen practice. This book criticized the corrupt practices of secularized Buddhist ideas and sought to resolve the conflicts between the Contemplative and Textual Schools of Buddhism and identify the true features of human beings. It was translated by State Preceptor Hyegak (aka Sinmi) into Korean and published by Gangyeong Dogam (Directorate of Buddhist Publications) in 1467 (13th year of the reign of King Sejo of the Joseon Dynasty). As a woodblock edition printed on mulberry paper, it measures 16.7 cm wide and 27.5 cm long. Sabeobeo (Four Dharma-words), also translated by Sinmi, is included in this book, with a record at the end of this book stating that great calligraphers of the time such as An Hye, Yu Hwan, and Park Gyeong wrote the letters of the main text. It is the identical edition to Moguja susimgyeol (Treasure No. 770), which is kept at Seoul National University, but this one includes the Sabeobeo part; the print is also more elaborate.
