Description
These are the Printing Woodblocks that were engraved for the publication of Seonggwanjajae gusu yukjaseonjeong, a book about “polishing one’s mind” by chanting a mantra composed of six characters. They are kept at Gaesimsa Temple, but they were re-engraved at Gayasa Temple, Sangwangsan Mountain, Deoksan, Chungcheong in 1621 (the first year of the reign of King Gwanghae). These plates consist of 19 chapters on a total of five plates (i.e. 4 chapters per plate, 2 chapters per page). The comments about their production in Chapter 16, the last chapter, and the epilogue provide information about when they were made, the names of the six non-monks, including Kim Guknam, who supported the work, and the name of the monk who engraved it (Gyeongeun). They are highly valuable materials as they have been preserved in good condition and are the oldest wooden plates used to print this particular book.
