Description
Saddharmapundarika Sutra (Lotus Sutra) is the principal scripture of the Cheontae Order of Korean Buddhism. The main idea of the book is that the way to become a Buddha is open to everyone. Along with the Avatamsaka Sutra (Flower Garland Sutra), this sutra was a principal scripture that wielded great influence on the establishment of Buddhist thoughts in Korea. As the last volume of Saddharmapundarika Sutra, this book was annotated by Jiehuan of the Song Dynasty and published by the order of Choe I in 1240 (27th year of the reign of King Gojong of the Goryeo Dynasty). It was printed on mulberry paper using woodblocks to form a folding screen-type book measuring 8.7 cm wide and 26 cm long. On the last page of the book are the names of the donors who contributed to the publication of this book. This book is estimated to have been published in the late Goryeo Period using the same woodblocks as the one designated as Treasure No. 692. It was clearly printed, and the front cover has been preserved in good condition.
